Initial positions from CI missing in PortfolioCenter
Product: Custodial Integrator for PortfolioCenter | Version: 3.1 |
Summary
When used improperly, positions can cause an account to be unreconciled. Therefore, PortfolioCenter does not automatically post them.
Use this topic to set up Custodial Integrator and PortfolioCenter so that initial positions for an account are exported from Custodial Integrator and post in PortfolioCenter.
Steps
-
In Custodial Integrator, confirm that all file type checkboxes are selected. Include initial positions must be checked for initial positions to be available to PC.
As a best practice, all of these checkboxes should always be checked.
-
In PortfolioCenter, do the normal Security>Price>Portfolio section of the workflow. When you come to Position, you will see just data that was converted and posted in the past.
-
To make the new data show, click the Settings... button at the bottom of the screen, then in the Transfer Parameters tab, select the Display new position files checkbox.
-
Click OK.
You may see many new position files, one for every date for which you have done a CI export.
-
Double click the one with the most recent date do display its contents. It contains positions for all of your BAA accounts, Deposit activities for cash balances, and Receipt of Security activities for everything else.
You only want to post the positions for the new account(s). If you see the Error message The portfolio already contains transactions… for the positions for these accounts, as shown in the next image, verify that you have the right account. Portfolios for which positions are being posted should not have any transactions yet.
- After the positions for the new account(s) are posted, proceed with the daily PC workflow.
-
When you close the Interface Positions window, notice that all of the new files are now gone. They are gone because the Display new position files checkbox you selected in step 3 automatically unchecks when a new position file is double clicked, as a safeguard to prevent users from posting positions unintentionally.
-
Do not post any transactions for the new account(s) that appear in this date’s transaction file. If there are any, set them to Blocked status (highlight them, right click, and choose Block Transaction). These transactions should not be posted because the positions, which tell PC what the account had at the end of the day (5/4 in this case), already account for transactions that occurred during the day. So if these were posted, you would be double counting them.
Note: There is another method to help ensure that transactions for the new account(s) do not get inadvertently posted. Do this step before importing and exporting from CI. In Custodial Integrator, click Setup > Account Translation tab. Highlight the new account and click Edit then set Earliest transaction trade date to today’s date.
- As always, and especially today, run the reconciliation report, as it will catch any error that was made during this process.
