CI icon will not open

 Product: Custodial Integrator Version: 3.2

Summary

If nothing happens when you double click the Custodial Integrator (CI) icon on your desktop, the system may not be able to find the path to Java. Use these instructions to first make sure you have the most recent version of Java, then to add the path to Java to your system's path variable.

Note: The steps may vary a bit depending on what version of Microsoft Windows you have.

Solution

  1. Go to www.java.com and upgrade to the latest version of Java. Follow their instructions.
  2. On your computer, navigate to the Java folder which should be either C:\Program Files\Java or C:\Program Files (x86)\Java.
To get there, open the My Computer icon on your desktop or use an explorer window. If you are using Windows 7, it might be called Computer.
  3. In the Java folder, look for a folder called jre6 or jre7. You may have both. If you have a jre7 folder open that, if you have only a jre6 folder then open that one.
  4. Open the bin folder and right click on the address in the address bar and choose Copy (or Copy address as text if you see that option).
This step copies the address to the clipboard; you will need it in a later step.
  5. Right-click on the My Computer (or Computer) icon in an explorer window or on the desktop and select Properties.
  6. If you have Windows XP, select the Advanced tab. If you have Windows 7, click on the Advanced System Settings link.
  7. Click the Environment Variables button.
  8. In the System Variables box, look for a variable called Path.
  9. Highlight the Path variable and click the Edit button.
  10. Without removing any of the information that is already in this variable, put your cursor at the very end of the line to the far right and type a semi-colon (;) and then paste the path to the Java bin folder directly after the semi-colon. Make sure there are no spaces before or after the semi colon.
You are just adding a new path to the existing variable. The path to the Java Bin folder should be set to something like C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\ or for 64 bit versions of Windows it might be C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\. (It may be slightly different for you).
  11. Click OK on all the dialog boxes to save the new path.
  12. Let us know if you experience any further problems after following this procedure.
